It's Been A While...

It has been a while indeed. 3 years since my last post. Was wondering if I'd ever get back to this blog. Guess there was too much happening in my life and I got too lazy to write.

Since the last post, I have gotten married, changed jobs twice and am now waiting for my new house to be completed.

Am 2 months into my new job now, and while I am not working directly in the Arts/Creative Industries, I have had the opportunity to be close to the Arts once again. This time, from the angle of Arts Education. Just spent an entire week at Lasalle College of the Arts, and I really really miss being involved, surrounded by pple who are creative and passionate about what they are doing.

Ok, maybe in my last job, the uniformed officers were quite creative, and some of them were quite passionate about their work. But Arty pple are just so much more colourful and interesting. The school has an amazing energy and excitement about it. Makes me want to take up a course, or job in the sector again.

But first, maybe I will start writing (typing) again.

"Art, in itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos." - Stephen Sondheim

Words Words Words

A: "Hmm so...what if I say no?"
B: "Then I'll work harder lor..."
A: "Then... what if I say yes leh?"
B: "Then I'll work even harder!"

Impressive, I must say. :D

活到老,学到老

We learn sthg new everyday. Today I learnt that, just cos a dude's got a nice car, and tons of money in his bank account doesn't make him any better than the average guy on the street. In fact, it makes him worse. Cos sometimes, u can take the villager out of the village, but not the other way round. I do think, however, that this may actually make for quite an interesting anthropological study. Heh.

Anyway, 12 down, 8 more to go.

Haizzz... it never rains but pours man. And one must really be careful for what one wishes for. God seems to be answering my prayers all at once. 搞唔點啊! But the most impt one is still not happening :S

Felt like my head was going to explode today. Had so many things to do!

1) Have breakfast with WQ and H to discuss Cambodia trip
2) Meet Sam during lunch to sign some insurance thing
3) Buy cake for tonight's dinner
4) Rush back to office to plough through files just to find some stupid info which was needed 'urgently' (which, in the end wasn't used today cos SD wasn't free!)
5) Pass docs to credit card courier
6) Dinner at the old man's house
7) Supper with the handsome bartender

And during lunch I ended up having to settle Wed's lunch and dinner appts and the bestbuy pple delivering my stuff.

What a bloody monday!!!

OH! I FORGOT TO SAY THAT I PASSED MY GRADE 4 GUITAR EXAM WITH DISTINCTION!!! Distinction ok!! First time taking guitar exam! WHEEEEEEEE!!!

The Generosity of the Owner of the Vineyard

Every year, during my birthday, I am reminded, that despite being such a grouch, I am still loved, and very much so too. :D

Random Thoughts of the Day/Week

1) The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts: Master of Fine Arts in Theatre and Entertainment Arts, major in Arts and Event Management. Oops. Just dreaming.

2) I need to channel all this energy and frustration into looking for a new job, or moving somewhere else.

3) Nearly burst a blood vessel today. Not sure why work gets me so riled up. Totally irrational. I wonder how pple put up with me sometimes.

4) Took a non-catholic and non-religious person to remind me to go to church and pray :)

5) This jumped out at me during RCIA today - Luke 22:32 "...but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail, and once you have recovered, you in your turn must strengthen your brothers." And I am comforted. :)

New song of the month. Am not really a big fan of 五月天 (Mayday), but I recently started listening to a bunch of songs frm my bro. Thing is, when I put the songs through iTunes, the song titles refuse to appear in chinese, and just appeared jumbled up. But when I first heard this song, I was so captivated by the guitar riff! Finally found out the name of the song tonight. Altho I still don't quite know what he's singing about. It's quite 乱 (messy) but anyway, enjoy!

Overkill?

And so, in line with my recent 香港疯, I have booked my ticket to HK in Sept (again!!! :D)

My bday present to myself I guess. Hahaha. Altho, going with mom and aunty prob not so fun... but I guess I can always ditch them and go do my own stuff since I'm a little more familiar with the place now! Woohoo!!

Dragging My Feet

那就是我对今晚约会的感想。我想,今晚应该是我一生之中最差劲的一晚。(OK, maybe there's just a teeny weeny bit of exaggeration) 竟然答应跟一个“我看了就想吐的人”吃饭。I was honestly most surprised that I was able to keep my food down the entire time.

Luckily at least had the pint sized Mr Hoegaarden to accompany me! :p

Anyway, I'm glad it's over. Rushed home as soon as I could to watch 學警狙擊 (E.U.) and rid my mind of the horrible image. Unfortunately (or fortunately), finished watching the last episode liao! Sigh...abit the no life, every night come back and have 约会 with leng zai Ron Ng in the TV. Haha. But anyway, here's a pic of the leng zai. And what's even better, it's with Tavia (the chio bu i posted before!)

Sigh, now I can go to sleep without having nightmares wor!!

p/s: Just in case i haven't given u access on FB, here's pics of my HK trip. Not all the photos are up yet.. but u all can see day 1 and day 2 first la.

三分钟热度

Sometimes, maybe, I'm just too anal about how things should be. Like how I assume that when pple indicate interest in sthg, they are genuinely interested (in the activity, meeting up or whatever). And I get so riled up when suddenly, they are not interested anymore.

But why do pple even indicate freaking interest in doing something in the first place? To show 'solidarity'? Just to say interested first, then can always 'see how' later.. cos if they didn't say interested then sekali they really wanna go then no kaki how? And this is why I hate big group activities, and worse, actually organising them. Like how many freaking opinions do u really need to consider before making a decision and what if those opinions are actually quite retarded?

So anyway, u guys can prob see where this is going. Stupid pple, all saying interested in going for KTV outing. And when we finally get down to the exact details, one by one drop out. And then there are those who don't even respond to emails. Don't know which is worse - not responding or responding alr then contradicting yourself after. Like can't you just get your freaking schedules organised?!

So damned angry that I wanna say screw the entire thing, I'm just gonna make my own plans and hang out with pple who are actually worth my time. But what shall I do about the poor girl who volunteered to organise it? I'll then become one of the pang seh-ers. :/

**Update: Ok.. the girl just emailed to say, why don't we change date cos that's not a good date for her either. And if we do it in July then there's more time to plan. Honestly, the idea was first mooted almost a month ago. If pple cldn't make time then, what makes u think they'll make time in July?? Well. Time to say no to shortening my lifespan even further!

粤

粤 [yuè]
1. Guangdong and Guangxi Provinces.
2. Alternative name for Guangdong Province.

粤语 [yuèyǔ]
1. Guangdong dialect; Cantonese

Been pondering abt my love for everything 粤 for a while now. I wonder if it's a subconscious thing from my childhood... since I probably had the longest amount of time with my grandparents and great-grandmother... so although I didn't really understand most of what was going on around me, I suppose any use of the language just resonates within me...like a "going back to my roots" thing.

Just like how mando/cantopop also struck a chord in me since pri 5. Not sure how I discovered it, think like I just decided one day that I'd listen to chinese music. (umm.. and maybe also cos of how cute I thought Leon Lai looked :p) Definitely nothing to do with my family on this, cos my parents are totally ang moh pai. And they were horrified to find me listening to 93.3 on the radio!

Ok, talking about music, my Canto supplier passed me a CD full of 100 over canto songs recently, so I've been listening!! Totally rediscovered 张学友 and 郑秀文. "New" music, shiok only la!! So anyway, share with u guys another song, by Sammi .. haven't heard of her in a while alr huh! But this song damn nice. Altho I don't totally get the words and the MV looks super depressing, it's still a nice tune :)

There's sthg about hearing pple speak cantonese, and all things 粤.. or HK that I so love. Really loved 家好月圆 cos the family owned a traditional chinese cake shop. I love love love egg tarts and 老婆饼s!! Was rather fascinated with the bridal cakes and all too. Will definitely go check out 恒香 when I go to HK again. Which is gonna happen this July btw!! Just wait till I book my flight!!

Methinks I could really settle down in HK... love all the food... the idea of 凉茶, dimsum, 汤 (which I really take for granted right now), and all the other super duper yummy food. Culture-wise... the things that they value are quite similar to what S'poreans value I suppose... which is what makes them so enterprising and such shrewd businessmen. Maybe only abit scared at their focus on money and materialism la. But having said that, I think it's a chinese thing la. Most S'poreans also like tt mah. Just a matter of whether u want to buy into it or not that's all.

Yest SH was surprised when I said I can't really speak cantonese.. cos cantonese pple are usually quite proud of their lang/culture/heritage and all. I know la.. 真丢脸 right... but what to do... never get to use mah. Now only get to hear it when I watch my canto dramas lor. I suppose the amt tt I can now understand has improved tremendously but..it still comes out wrong when I want to speak! Aargh.. same bloody prob for my mandarin :( But well, if I do manage to get off my ass and work on this new idea I've been thinking about for a while now, maybe the inability to speak cantonese can be rectified! *dreams*

Actually been trying to craft a post for the last few days but it's just not coming out correctly. As in, it's lacking a proper form of expression. So I'm just gonna do the usual random kaopehs, and 2 songs. :D

Kaopeh #1
They just keep getting younger... =_=

Kaopeh #2
Do I really have the aunt agony face?? Wait, these pple don't even need to see me before they start! They just decide to whine to me all of a sudden. Like really whine ok, it's not even the snarky kinda kaopeh leh :S Guys should not whine so much la!

Ok, kaopeh over. Share this song with u guys... discovered it recently, altho I had to search for translation to try and understand the lyrics, but I was really drawn to the melody and voice at first :)

And me being slow, cos for some reason... didn't really listen much to this particular Jay Chou album... also just discovered this song. Loveeee the whole R&B beat to it! (if u can get past his super action dancing)

This song is my latest craze. Yes, I know I'm slow... but can't be helped cos JJ decided to start this (very nice) song with some rather lameass weird intro and all. So if u listen, pls skip the first 55 secs or so. Wasn't until recently tt I realised tt the song is actually quite nice. I usually just skip it on my ipod cos the beginning sounds so cha-chat.

Anyway... GE is finally over!!! Yay.. no more duty, slightly lesser stress and more Public Hols! haha. And also looking forward to some relatively exciting weekends ahead!

被"拒绝"的感觉

Feeling abit emo tonight.. altho the song is really quite abit of an exaggeration. Haha. Have been listening to my canto songs a great deal these days tho! Anyway, 被"拒绝"也好啦。。。因为希望越多,失望也更加多!:p 算了! Will post sthg frivolous to make myself happy. This is my latest 帅哥 craze..the irresistably honest and decent looking 马浚伟!

Ok.. granted it's not a really good photo of him..but quite reflective of his character in the show I'm currently watching. And his co-lead is damn chio la, in my opinion. But of course, 有帅哥,一定要有美女吗...hmm..那我的帅哥到底在哪里呢?Haha ok it's late, crapping too much. Off to bed! 希望会有美梦吧!

I miss...

- Playing badminton with Hector and Meng.
I am seriously in need of another regular doubles partner (who can make up for my lack of skill :p)

- Having many (single) girlfriends who are always available for shopping/clubbing.
But having said that, I'm also grateful for girlfriends who can afford the time to hang out with me. Thankfully, there are still 1 or 2 :)

- Having good travel kakis.
I can't believe it's so damn difficult to find the right pple to go Hongkong travelling with :/

- Being young/fit enough to not get sports-related injuries/aches.

- Not having to deal with 烂桃花. :((((

- Having a good boss. (In anticipation of this wednesday *sob*)

Stupid Assignment

Memories of the early 2000s are coming back to haunt me cos it's 1+am and I'm still up trying to complete a 2000 word essay. The only consolation is that it's 2 days to the deadline and at least I've started. Haha.

This bloody 1 mth course has been a royal pain in the ass. We're into week 3 now so 2 more days of slow death and 1 more week of torture. Will blog more on my 'experiential learning' in Bintan after my assignment has been handed in. Extremely physically gruelling esp for the first few days... came back with tons of bruises, muscle aches and sun burn.

Can't wait for this weekend to arrive... then I can just rot at home. Can't believe I didn't make any plans for Sat night. Wld've been nice to catch a good movie (or go shopping just to integrate back into civilisation again) but deciding on what to watch and who to watch it with is proving to be too much of a hassle. Not to mention having to actually make the arrangements. Heh.

Alrighty, back to work.
