Adventure + 菜单/菜蛋?!
Went on a mini adventure today... to search for this dim sum place called Red Star Restaurant or sthg i think. Quite fun... cos we didn't really know where the place was, and I hadn't the slightest idea where we were really walking to. (This is unusual btw, given me..the anal always-must-know-where-i'm-going) So..walked through some part of chinatown. It was fun :)And we were quite lucky...cos it wasn't too difficult to find! Got a bit excited when the aunty waitress asked table for how many in cantonese tho. Thought it'd be a gd time for me to practice my half past six cantonese...but subsequently, everybody else spoke to me in mandarin. -_- Even when I asked for Chrysanthemum tea in cantonese!
And hor, the sian thing was tt we found out they only serve dim sum in the morn till afternoon. -_- annoying!! But anyways, they had dishes tt looked quite nice... one of them like what my dad always cooks during CNY.
Another cock thing tt happened was me asking for dessert. All this happened in Mandarin...
Me: "Miss, can we order dessert? (cos late liao, so dunno whether they closing)
Woman: "Yes sure"
Me: "Then can we have the menu(菜单) please?
Woman: "Er, dun have, but we have mango pudding, almond jelly, guilin gao..."
Me: "?!?!!?!?"
I was like - wth?! How bad is my mandarin sia? How else do you say menu in chinese? Is there a dessert that sounds like cai4dan1?!
Shane's rationale was, "Maybe she thought u were asking for 菜蛋?"
=_=
